My first golf lesson was when I was five. However, my first love was soccer. Throughout middle school, I competed in soccer, and played left wing for both my school (CIS) and travel team (APSS). It was not until 2020, when I was 12 when COVID-19 restrictions in Hong Kong became stricter, and soccer matches and training were canceled. However, golf courses stayed open, so I spent more time practicing and playing golf. In the first few months, I brought my handicap down from the 20s to the teens.
In 2021, I played a total of 7 events in Hong Kong. I was able to further refine my golf game and played tournaments internationally, competing in 7 events in the US, and 8 in Hong Kong.
In 2022, I started to place and win tournaments, and after finishing at the top of the HK HSBC Junior order of merit (U14) for the year, I earned a spot on the HK Junior Team and decided to focus exclusively on golf.
I have a 2 year gap in my golf resume from June 2023 to August 2024 because I was recovering from major brain surgery and a back injury. The brain surgery was to treat a congenital condition called Chiari Malformation (what Bobby Jones suffered from).
To ensure a full recovery, I went through a multi-year rehabilitation program to radically change my range of motion, strength in my lower body and core, and altered my diet by cutting out dairy, gluten, and added sugars.
Through the countless hours of rehab, my desire to return to competitive golf never wavered. In August 2024, I was given the clearance to resume tournament golf.
For the past 6 months, I have been training hard to get back to where I can compete and resume as one of the top golfers in Hong Kong. My body feels great, my game is back to where it was, and I am focused on getting much better.
